Changes are happening at the wildlife park. With the provincial stamp of approval on a new name, the local visitor attraction has officially become the British Columbia Wildlife Park. "We feel very good about what this will do for the profile of the park," says general manager Rob Purdy. The new name coincides with a new vision for the Kamloops zoo, one that will see its focus shift to showcasing animal species native to this province. While a new sign has already been erected for travellers heading westbound on the Trans-Canada Highway toward the park, featuring a grizzly bear with a salmon caught in its mouth, the tiger sign welcoming eastbound visitors will be changed. An image of a cougar will replace the striped beast. Letterhead is being changed and so is the Web site. Park information can be found by going to the old Internet address at www.Kamloopswildlife.org or the new address at BCzoo.org. "It's short and snappy and people will remember it," Purdy says of the new Web address. A new name for the park was supported by the city, which funds the facility's operations on an annual basis, earlier in the year. Mayor Mel Rothenburger, however, didn't like the fact the word Kamloops was moved from its place of prominence. It will now be put at the end, as an identifier of the parks' location. For further information, please contact BC Wildlife Park at 573-3242. |
