The Kamloops Safe House on River Street near the old Yacht Club is a safe haven for local youth ages 13-19 who for whatever reason are on the streets.
These youths receive counciling, drug awareness information programs, help getting back into the community, condoms, and birth control information.
Most of all, they receive help to communicate with their families.
Safe House staff help parents and teens keep in contact with each other.
They help troubled youth turn their lives around though their youth programs, understanding guidance, and just because they truely care about these young people.
The Safe House can only sleep 8 youths at a time but they offer food, clean clothes, laundry facilities and showers.
Please come out and give generously to this worthwhile program for our local youth.
Any business that wants to can have a donation box for the Safe House.
Dearborn Motors will have a pick up truck on hand to collect all Safe House Needs:
- good usable furniture & household appliances & dishes
- good shape sweat clothing, boots and winter wear
- new non-perishable food and toiletries
- new underwear, socks, tuques, gloves
- and money for the Brian Roberts Drug Awareness Program
The Lions Club & Blackwell Dairy will be donating a portion of their sales to support the Brian Roberts Drug Awareness Program at the Kamloops Safe House.
The Brian Roberts Drug Awareness Program is a program set up by Dallas residents Kathy and Ian Roberts in memory of their son Brian who passed away 3 weeks before his 19th birthday on October 25, 1998.
Brian went through the Safe House when he was lost and on drugs, the Safe House helped their son leave the drugs scene behind and find a job.
Brian then went on to help other troubled youths in Kamloops turn their lives around before his untimely death due to a seizure and heart attack in his sleep at the logging camp where he was working.
Though Brian didn't die from drugs, the damage had been done to his young body and he couldn't fight off the flu he had at the time of his death.
Because the Safe House helped Brian and because Brian tried desperately to help other drug addicted youths, his parents decided to start the Brian Roberts Drug Awareness Program in his memory at the Kamlooops Safe House.
Thus far the Roberts have managed to fund the program through family donations and the sale of the book his mother wrote "Brian's World, Can't You See What I See", the story of Brian's life.
